Naming Your New Best Friend
Naming your new best friend is important business and is a hot topic in any household, even if your partner said they didn’t even want a dog! You like one thing, they like another - how do you choose?! Well, we might not have the answer (and we’re certainly not getting involved in the discussions!) but we compiled our own list of favourites that you are very welcome to read over.
Kev was the winner of the dog naming competition in our home with Zelda. As in the Legend of Zelda for the gamers out there. Yes, our dog is named after a video game princess. Although many adorable nicknames have come from this name including Zelly, Zeldy, Zelbell, Zelly Baby and my personal favourite, Zeldaphilius - quite a mouthful, I know! I liked the name Betty but our Romanian puppy just didn’t look like a Betty.
Over the years we’ve had the pleasure of:
Marley (my brother’s English Bull Terrier, possibly the greatest dog that ever lived)
Lotte (our German Wirehaired Pointer)
Jenna (again, our German Wirehaired Pointer, who could eat for days!)
Rona (name of a Scottish island for our beloved Westie dog)
Tess (my first ever dog, a Collie)
We especially enjoy old fashioned names and cute foodie names for dogs. What about you? What names have you had over the years?
Old Timey Names
Whatever you pick, make sure you and all the family are happy to shout it across the park on Sunday morning!
We’d love to hear what you’ve called your new dog including nicknames that have developed over time. We’re really bad for coming up with copious amounts of daft nicknames for all our dogs. Please tell us it’s not just us!
